To earn enough money to live is not a simple task now, nor was it a simple task in any other moment in time for most of us. There is an illusion going around that a time when living off the money you earned was simple for a lot of people and this propaganda is confirmed and refuted in the data and in the stories we hear and don't hear from our parents. Regardless, this story seems like a tiny blip in the history of us humans. It is not that we are going backwards to a previous barbarian like condition, society is merely correcting itself, counteracting the post war highs that should have hit us sooner. Illusions are a strong beast to tame when you and everyone you know almost died. 

We are on the way back to that time before the war, when people lived in shitholes and no one was in the middle except a few and their stories were the stories no one cared about. Middle of the road accountants.
